I was fishing on the southwest side of Willard Sat afternoon when some guy trolling out in front of me caught a wiper. I yelled to him Hey that was mine. He said come get it. Then I asked him what he was using since I was catching anything. He told me chartreuse maniac minnow. All I had was white and he trolled near the shore and gave me a variety of his minnows and some jig heads. Well I want to tell that guy thanks and I will be using Maniacs when ever I can. I have attached a pictre of my sons first catch ever only minutes after using the minnows he gave us. In fact he is in the background in the boat. Thanks Again you made my sons week.

Thank you
Ryan

Just thought I would let you know that I tried out your Maniac 3" pumkinseed worm (salt & scent free) at Quincy Reservior here in Aurora Co. I finally caught my first Bass at that reservior on that lure. Its great that you are putting out salt & scent free lure that we can use when on restricted water. Attached is a pic of the 3# bass that was caught photographed & release thanks to your lure. Look forward to more to come. I have passed the info along to a fishing message board that finally there is a salt free, scent free "senko" type lure that works.

Thanks,
Scott Rundquist

"James, just a quick note to tell you I really like your baits. I used the reapers and the paddle tails to take 7th place at a TBF qualifier this last Saturday. Your baits are definitely something to be proud of. My partner was fishing several different worms and various plastics and only caught 1 fish for 2 days." -- Don Simper

In June of 2006, I had the urge to go fish the Payette River in Southwest Idaho in pursuit of some early summer bass. This time of year can be difficult due to unpredictable flows from the runoff, but it generally is starting to subside and access from the bank is more and more available. When I arrived at the Black Canyon Dam, water was spilling over the spillway and the flows were 3 times higher then average. What is normally a nice little calm area below the Dam, now was a turbulent, but fishable river.

Not expecting great results, I started off casting lipless crank baits in hopes of catching a smallmouth. After several dozen casts and no action, I decided to go with a slower approach so I put on a 3" Maniac Grub in the (013) Changeable Craw color. I put the grub on a lead headed jig and started making my casts along the shores and into the heart of the river. It wasn't long and I had landed my first smallmouth bass in the 2 lb range, and in short time, I landed several more of the feisty river bass.

After the 5th smallmouth, something happened that I never expected from this river. I landed a 3 lb largemouth bass and shortly after, I landed 2 more largemouth in the 2 lb range.

I've landed many smallmouth bass out of this spot in the past years, but until this day I've never caught a largemouth here, nor did I even think I would catch one out of this river. After less then 2 hours of fishing this location I landed 9 smallmouth and 3 largemouth all on the 3" Changeable Craw Grub by Maniac Custom Lures. I was pleasantly surprised of the durability that these soft plastic had, but more important I was pleased with the results I had catching fish with them.

Since that time I've always made it a point to cast a Maniac Grub first when I'm river fishing for bass. And in more times then I can count, it has always paid off.

Sincerely,
Jessie Quill

FISHING WITH A MANIAC
By Ray Schelble

One of the things I really like about Brad Cutler is that he is always up for trying something new. He constantly has his eyes open for something different - better fishing equipment, a new lure or a more effective technique. So in November, 2006, when he gave me a couple of packages of soft plastics to take down to Lake Powell, I started fishing them right away. As it turned out, I didn't fish anything else the whole trip. My daughter, son-in-law and I caught crappie, stripers, smallmouth, largemouth and even a few catfish, all of us using the lures that Brad gave me. The lure was called a Maniac Minnow, made by a company called Maniac Custom Lures.

After Brad had a ball in February on Arizona's Lake Roosevelt catching crappie up to over two pounds on Maniac Minnows, he did a little research on the company. It turns out they are located just outside of Brigham City, Utah. On Friday, March 2, 2007, Brad and I set out to pay them a visit. On the way we stopped to pick up Jim Morkin in Uintah.

The owners of Maniac Custom Lures, James and Sheri Bradshaw, are
genuinely friendly people who are obviously very excited about what
they do. As it turned out, Jim and James knew a lot of the same
people in the northern Utah bass fishing community, and spent quite a
bit of time catching up.

James gave us the 50-cent tour through their operation and patiently answered a lot of questions. The biggest lesson for me was learning all that goes into making these soft plastics. I really had no idea how much work and skill it involved, not to mention the tens of thousands of dollars in equipment. We were all impressed by the quality and care that goes into Maniac's products, right down to the colors and the details in the molds. In addition, we learned that Sheri has another business embroidering logos on hats, shirts and jackets. RMAs always have a need for that, and we'll be looking into it. The product line of Maniac Custom Lures includes Maniac Grubs, Maniac Minnows, Maniac Salt Sticks, Maniac Paddle Tails, Maniac Cut'r Bugs and the Maniac Ice Cut'r, which is designed for ice fishing but looks like it should work well for any kind of panfishing. They have a good selection of colors, and you can order a custom color if you need it.

In the Wasatch Front area, Maniac products are available at Fish Tech in the Holladay/Cottonwood area, Sportsman's Warehouse in Midvale, Smith and Edwards in Willard, Anglers Den in Riverdale, and they will have a booth at this year's International Sportsman's Expo March 15 through 18, 2007. You can find Maniac on the web at www.maniaccustomlures.com, or you can call at 435-279-9900. Their website includes a pdf that has instructions on rigging and presentations for Maniac products. Maniac Custom Lures is a great combination of a Utah company and lures that really work!

Got a story to tell, send it to us at maniaclures@maniaccustomlures.com
